The first Ruby Retreat is to be held around Christchurch at the fantastic Mt Cheeseman Ski Lodge. We were last at this venue for the last Rails Camp in 2017, and it's a really great experience. We were planning to be here in 2020 and in 2021 but unfortunately, as we're sure you're already aware, COVID.

Pricing

All pricing is in New Zealand Dollars and includes GST.

Student / Unwaged ticket

If you are currently a full time student, or aren't currently working and the main ticket price creates a barrier for you, then this ticket type is for you.

Opportunity Scholarship Discount Voucher

This ticket is available to anyone who self-identifies as belonging to a group that is poorly represented in tech, or if the other tickets' prices are the barrier to your attendance. No explanation will be required if you choose this ticket, we just want to see you there!

If this applies to you, then to secure your ticket for the low price of $60, simply choose "Opportunity Scholarship".

Alcohol Policy

Ruby Retreat: 2023 is aiming to have a licensed duty manager with responsible service of alcohol provided by the event. This will be dependent on licensing availability and available funds.

When should I arrive?

Please arrive at Christchurch Airport before 3PM on Friday, 27 October. Barring any unforeseen circumstances out of our control, it's safe to book flights to leave after 1PM on Monday, 30 October. Or, you could stick around and tour our beautiful South Island, with tourism operators needing our support more than ever.

What's included with your ticket?

• Very high quality catering for all meals over the weekend including dinner on Friday, and breakfast on Monday.
• Coffee (through various brewing methods including espresso, aeropress, pourover), Tea, and snacks.
• Accommodation (think ski-lodge bunk-room style with shared bathrooms) for Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights.
• Transport to the retreat from Christchurch Airport, and we'll return you back again after the retreat.
• The opportunity to meet lots of people in the New Zealand Ruby programming community.

What should you bring?

Please bring some bedding, and a towel. There are mattresses and pillows and 1 blanket per bunk but no sheets, duvets etc so you will need to bring these, or a sleeping bag along with a pillow case.

Because this is an alpine environment, even though it is the end of October, it would be a good idea to pack for the potential of cold weather.
